Technical discussions continue between Korean officials and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, though both sides remain tight-lipped about specific negotiation points. The absence of key political appointments in Seoul and Washington has relegated talks to non-sensitive matters within the trade ministry's purview.
"Without confirmed ministers or a bilateral summit, they'll avoid defense costs and currency debates—focusing only on what bureaucrats can handle," said Sogang University economist Heo Yoon. The 10% general tariff and 25% country-specific duty loom as potential economic headwinds should negotiations stall.
